The Victorian Government invested $34.9 million in the Sunshine Hospital emergency department redevelopment.
The project will support the hospital to provide more people in the growing western suburbs with timely and world-class medical care.
The redevelopment has expanded and refurbished the emergency department, adding 65 new spaces - more than doubling current capacity.
It also features an expanded children’s section. This kids-only area is specially designed to give around 19,700 kids a year a calmer, more compassionate environment to receive emergency care.
The bigger and better Sunshine Hospital will also include a $5.3 million emergency department mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub.
The new hub, one of six being delivered across the state, will mean people presenting at Sunshine Hospital’s emergency department with mental health, alcohol or other drug related issues can be fast tracked to specialist, dedicated care – providing them with the right support, sooner.
Sunshine’s emergency department is one of the busiest in Victoria. It treats around 65,000 patients each year. Once complete, Sunshine Hospital’s new emergency department will be able to treat an extra 59,000 patients each year
