We're removing the Ruthven Street level crossing and making Macleod level crossing-free by 2027 by building a new rail bridge.
Removing this level crossing will improve safety, reduce congestion and allow more trains, more often.
Around 12,600 drivers travel through this crossing each day. Boom gates are down for up to 29 minutes of the morning peak, with up to 28 trains travelling through this crossing during this time.
This builds on the second stage of the Hurstbridge Line Duplication, which will allow more train services to run, so removing this crossing now will prevent even more boom gate down time in the future.
We’ve already removed level crossings at Grange Road, Alphington and Lower Plenty Road, Rosanna creating more benefits for local communities and a better transport network for all Victorians.
