The $4.1 million Morrie Evans Wing refurbishment officially opened in January 2020. This project was designed to provide aged care residents with modern, private facilities.
The Morrie Evans Wing is a 30-bed public sector residential aged care facility located at Benalla Health in Benalla. It provides personalised residential aged care for residents with high care health needs and people living with dementia. The project delivered 16 new single rooms and refurbished 14 rooms with private ensuites, television connections and internet access. New staff areas were created, including a new nurses’ station. A new sunroom and enclosed activities room, as well as garden and outdoor spaces, were included in the redevelopment.
The refurbishment aimed to provide more privacy for residents and visitors, a greater sense of community and improved safety for staff.
The project was funded by the Victorian Government’s $490 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund. The largest of its kind in Victorian history, the fund is rebuilding regional and rural hospitals to ensure Victorians can access the high-quality care and facilities they need – no matter where they live.
