The $73 million Latrobe Regional Hospital Stage 2 expansion was completed in August 2017.
The project was designed to improve access to efficient, high quality healthcare services that the Gippsland community can access close to home. It also aimed to encourage health care professionals to live and work in the region.
The expansion included 30 new acute inpatient beds, 12 new short stay beds, a new emergency department and Gippsland’s first cardiac catheterisation laboratory.
A third stage to the expansion was announced in December 2019. The $217 million Stage 3A expansion will include 44 new inpatient beds and three new operating theatres. It is expected to create 600 construction jobs and is due to be completed in 2023.
