Gap Road Sunbury

The Gap Road level crossing in Sunbury is the fourth to be removed along the Sunbury Line, which will leave 4 level crossings remaining between Sunbury Station and the city.

The boom gates at Gap Road were down for up to 26% of the morning peak, with up to 24 trains running through the crossing. Current network plans involve increasing trains running on the Sunbury Line, which would have meant more boom gate downtime.

This project is being delivered in a partnership between the Level Crossing Removal Project and Rail Projects Victoria.

By coordinating the Gap Road level crossing removal and the Sunbury Line Upgrade projects, we were able to bring the level crossing removal forward from 2025 to 2022 and get traffic in the Sunbury CBD moving sooner..
