Argyle Avenue Chelsea

The level crossing at Argyle Avenue, Chelsea was removed in November 2021 by lowering the rail line into a trench and building a new road at the current level.

Thames Promenade was also extended to the Nepean Highway. The Swanpool Avenue and Chelsea Road level crossings were closed to vehicles.

The new road connection between Thames Promenade and the Nepean Highway created a direct connection to major arterial roads, including the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and new Mordialloc Freeway.

A new Chelsea Station, with improved pedestrian and bus connections, was built as part of the project.

The boom gates at the 3 Chelsea level crossings were down for up to 40% of the morning peak, when up to 30 trains ran through the crossings.

Works started in 2020, with all level crossings from Edithvale to Bonbeach gone in late 2021.
