Eastern Freeway - Tram Road to Springvale Road
Project design
For the upgrades to the Eastern Freeway between Tram Road and Springvale Road, we’ll build:
- new lanes for express, local and through trips and new entry and exit ramps between Tram and Middleborough roads to reduce the merging and weaving that causes congestion in this area today
- 3 new freeway lanes from Middleborough Road to Springvale Road to improve traffic flow
- upgraded entry ramps at Springvale Road, Surrey Road and Wetherby Road
- 1.6 kilometres of improved walking and cycling connections including Koonung Creek Trail upgrades, new bridges to Eram Park at Eram Road and Koonung Creek, and upgrades to the Cabena Street and Koonung Road bridges for better links with Koonung Creek Trail
- returned open space at Eram Park and Junction Road Reserve with reinstated lawns, more trees and plants and improved connections to nearby streets, trails and reserves
- quieter road surfaces that will work together with new noise walls and existing noise walls being kept, to meet Victoria’s toughest 63 decibel noise standard, plus a lower 58 decibel protection at night
