We’re removing the level crossing at Keon Parade by building a rail bridge over the road and building a new Keon Park Station.
Building a rail bridge over Keon Parade means we can get rid of this dangerous level crossing sooner and will be less disruptive for road and rail users during construction.
This level crossing clogs local roads and puts lives at risk. Keon Parade’s boom gates are down for up to 41 minutes during the morning peak (7am to 9am), causing significant delays for the 18,000 vehicles that use the crossing each day.
In the last 9 years there have been 24 near misses and one crash recorded at the Keon Parade level crossing. Removing this crossing will improve safety, reduce congestion, and allow more trains to run, more often.
A new train station will be built at Keon Park as part of the level crossing removal, with modern facilities for the community.
The new Keon Park Station will be in a new location on the south side of Keon Parade, delivering safer connections to shops, public transport and local neighbourhoods.
Early works will start later this year and with construction ramping up in 2023. Keon Parade’s boom gates will be gone for good and the new Keon Park Station will open in 2025
