As part of the Ringwood Level Crossing Removal Project, we are removing level crossings at Dublin Road, Ringwood East and Bedford Road, Ringwood, which will make Ringwood level crossing free.
Around 23,000 vehicles travel through these level crossings each day, where the boom gates are down for up to 23 minutes of the morning peak.
Following community consultation, the project team has enhanced the Bedford Road level crossing removal project to include a shared walking and cycling path connecting the Heathmont Rail Trail to Bedford Park alongside the Belgrave line.
The new path will remove the need to travel on-road via Lena Grove and improves walking and cycling options in the area.
Removing these crossings will improve safety, reduce congestion, and pave the way for more trains to run, more often.
The removal of the Bedford Road level crossing means the Belgrave Line will be level crossing free from the city to Ferntree Gully, changing how locals live, work and travel.
Early works will start in late 2022, with major construction in 2023. In 2025, trains will be running in the new trenches and Bedford and Dublin roads will be level crossing free.
